What an honor it was to be invited to speak at Fortis BC this past week. It was the first of many public speaking opportunities for Positively Green Clean! The topics which were chosen for the event were, the benefits of using environmental products and practices within the home and work place. We also touched on the potential health dangers of artificially scented products in the home.
Here is the summary of topics shared during the presentation. You can never go wrong with learning something new or even revisiting something old!
Why switch to Environmentally Friendly Products?
1. The most valuable reasons to use Green products in your Home:
• Health of you and your family/loved ones (even pets!)
• Our water supply
• The future generations to come
• Traditional cleaning products weaken our immunity
• Personal life values
2. The “Cost” of commercial cleaners in the workplace:
• A healthy work environment is just as important as a healthy home
• Eco alternatives keep the air quality cleaner and can disinfect using safe and natural alternatives
• Using environmentally friendly cleaning products in the workplace can cut down on sick days and increase productivity
3. What about Germs?! :
• Marketing ploys make us paranoid
• Commercial “disinfectants” kill both good and bad bacteria and can change micro flora (healthy gut bacteria)
• Proper immunity maturation and strengthening comes from being exposed to different environments; this can prevent the development of allergies
• Chemical disinfectants cause bacteria to mutate into super bugs
4. The Dangers of Artificially Scented Products:
• Products claiming to clean the air just mask smells for a
short time while polluting indoor air
• Indoor air pollutant levels can be 100x more than outdoor levels
• 95% of “Fragrance” is made up of petroleum, and other known toxins which can cause cancer, birth defects, central nervous system disorders and allergic reactions.
• Fragrances enter our body through the skin, lungs and the mouth
• Chemicals can cause allergic reactions and change the brains electrical activity which can trigger migraine headaches, dizziness, fatigue and inhibit the ability to concentrate
• Phthalates (pronounced THAL-ates) found in some air fresheners, soft plastics, cosmetics, paints, nail polish and children’s toys can cause cancer, developmental and sex-hormone abnormalities in infants, and can also affect fertility
